Oakwood Supports Haribon's ROAD to 2020

March 2014

“The best way to predict the future is to design it” –

And that is exactly what the employee volunteers of Oakwood Premier Joy~Nostalg Center Manila did hand in hand with the members of Haribon Foundation last March 15, 2014 in a tree planting activity in Lewin, Lumban Laguna.

Committed to saving the environment and fueled by Oakwood Worldwide’s drive against Global Warming, the eco-friendly hotel in Ortigas supported Haribon’s ROAD to 2020 campaign by joining the ongoing rainforestation advocacy of the pioneer environmental organization in the Philippines.

The team also actively engaged in preparing both seedlings and soil at the Buhay Punlaan Nursery where they were also given an overview of Haribon’s environmental conservation movement.

“We learned the importance of selecting native trees to populate deforested areas”, says Oliva Urgel, HR Director of Oakwood Premier Joy~Nostalg Center Manila, pertaining to the native seedlings with normal growth pace. “It ensures that the rehabilitated areas will flourish naturally without any decline to the flora and fauna diversity that usually happens with exotic trees”.

By advocating rainforestation over reforestation, they are able to design and propagate an ecosystem that thrives in biodiversity using native trees that are more likely to survive in their natural habitat over exotic and fast growing trees that are used in reforestation.
Oakwood Premier Joy~Nostalg Center Manila fully supports Haribon Foundation in its campaign to propagate one million hectares of woodland with native trees by 2020.
